Travel size 2.5% benzoyl peroxide acne treatment developed specifically for travelling. Gel based, so it goes on clear and spreads easily. Pharmaceutical grade, pH balanced, fragrance free, and dye free. Won't "clump up" with moisturizers, and won't turn white when you perspire. Created especially for the Regimen at Acne.org. Studies show that 2.5% benzoyl peroxide works as well as 10% solutions, without the excessive dryness and irritation.

Why make another 2.5% benzoyl peroxide?

For the Regimen to work well, you'll need to use generous amounts of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. As it stood, out of all the products available over-the-counter in the U.S., Neutrogena On-the-Spot Acne Treatment was the only widely available 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, and it comes in a .75 ounce tube which tends to run out quickly. For years I lobbied large brand names in the acne medication industry, asking them to make a generously sized 2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel. After writing and calling everyone I could think of many times and receiving friendly responses but no action, I decided it was necessary for me to make a larger one for us myself. For best results, read about how to use 2.5% benzoyl peroxide before jumping in.

How does benzoyl peroxide work?

First it is important to understand how skin blemishes occur. Whether we are talking about facial acne, back acne or other body acne, acne problems start the same way. For reasons no one understands, a pore collapses in on itself and the walls of the follicle stick together, preventing sebum (oil) from escaping.

Inside sebum lives acne bacteria (P. Acnes). Normally, the oil in the follicle drains to the surface, taking acne bacteria with it. However, when the pore is blocked, the bacteria begins to multiply. Inflammation ensues and a zit is born. If the pore is blocked completely a whitehead results. If the pore is partially blocked, a blackhead persists.

Acne medicine usually attacks one of the two phases of a blemish's life cycle, either preventing the initial collapse of the pore, or killing P. Acnes bacteria. Benzoyl peroxide treats the latter, and perhaps both phases. Out of any treatment on the market, prescription or over-the-counter, benzoyl peroxide kills this bacteria the best. Studies show benzoyl peroxide killing over 99% of acne bacteria in quick fashion. Upon application of benzoyl peroxide to the skin, oxygen is created. P. Acnes can not live in the presence of oxygen. This is why benzoyl peroxide is so effective.

So the question remains, what about the pore plugging up in the first place? Benzoyl peroxide also has a mild drying and peeling effect which is thought to help prevent this occurence. In a nutshell, I have found that if you use enough 2.5% benzoyl peroxide and let it do its job by avoiding other variables, it works incredibly well.

Why 2.5% benzoyl peroxide?

Several studies show that 2.5% benzoyl peroxide helps get rid of blemishes and helps prevent pimples just as well as 10% solutions. Because of the lower concentration of benzoyl peroxide, 2.5% gets rid of acne with much less irritation.

In my experience, benzoyl peroxide is the best treatment to clear and prevent moderate to light acne. 2.5% benzoyl peroxide in particular provides maximum bacteria killing ability with less irritation. Do not be fooled by "maximum strength" claims on 10% benzoyl peroxide medications. Companies know that people will always buy the "maximium strength" they can buy. But educated consumers know that 2.5% benzoyl peroxide is equally effective and much less irritating. This allows us to use as much as we need to combat pimples and adequately prevent future acne occurence.

In my experience, the best way to prevent acne from recurring is through the precise application of benzoyl peroxide as outlined in the Regimen at Acne.org. I would like to perform a clinical study to prove this and hope to initiate one in the future. I think the results would be dramatic.

How do I use 2.5% benzoyl peroxide?

I made my own benzoyl peroxide so people can use it with the Regimen found on Acne.org. Through years of trial and error, I found that 2.5% benzoyl peroxide when used in conjunction with gentle cleansing and adequate moisturization is an unbeatable acne treatment option.
The Regimen helps get rid of acne quickly and reliably, but it must be followed precisely to work well. Please read The Regimen and watch the regimen videos for best results.

As with any acne treatment aside from Accutane, you must continue with your regimen until you grow out of acne. There is no cure for acne, just ongoing treatment.

I found that you must use generous amounts of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide to achieve clear skin. This is why Acne.org Benzoyl Peroxide is made in a large 4 oz. size. It is important to remember, as with any acne treatment, that you are gentle in application with Acne.org Benzoyl Peroxide. We know that irritation can aggravate acne, so be gentle when you apply Acne.org Benzoyl Peroxide.

Before you use Acne.org Benzoyl Peroxide, be sure to read through The Regimen carefully, print it out, and watch the videos a few times. You should start clearing up quickly and reliably if you follow The Regimen closely.

Who makes it?

I found a manufacturer who has been producing benzoyl peroxide for 30 years. A pharmaceutical consultant who donated her time and energy to this project recommended them as the best manufacturer on the market for benzoyl peroxide in the United States. Out of the six samples I tried from various manufacturers, their product was clearly the best. It has an incredible feel and a neutral pH of 5.3, which is right in the range of the pH of human skin. They were the most expensive manufacturer, but their product was so much better that I decided to go with them. I gave it to a couple friends who used The Regimen, and they loved it too. I also sent tubes to the message board moderators. You can read their reviews in this thread on the Acne.org message boards.

What is pharmaceutical grade?

Acne.org Benzoyl Peroxide is a pharmaceutical grade product. Our manufacturer triple mills the highest quality benzoyl peroxide available to ensure extra fine raw material. This is why you won't find grittiness in Acne.org Benzoyl Peroxide like you often do in other benzoyl peroxide meds. When applied to the skin, this produces smaller particles of benzoyl peroxide which penetrate more deeply into the skin.

A few people have reported that they have broken out upon switching to Acne.org Benzoyl Peroxide. Although this is not common, there is an explanation for those of you who may experience it. It could be the result of the smaller particles of benzoyl peroxide reaching deeper down into the skin and attacking the acne that is still well below the surface. This acne is destined to reach the surface at some point. However, a pharmaceutical grade benzoyl peroxide can act as a metabolic accelerator, bringing this acne to the surface. The good news is that after this initial breakout that some people may experience, you can look for your skin to stay clearer with a pharmaceutical grade benzoyl peroxide medication. With each application it will be penetrating more deeply and preventing acne from forming. I have personally never been clearer since switching.

Why is it so inexpensive?

I use the Regimen twice a day myself and I was spending way too much on small tubes. You guys were very clear on the messageboards that I should make a bigger, more affordable one for us myself. Some people could not afford to buy as many of the small tubes as they needed to confidently perform the Regimen, which calls for using plenty of 2.5% benzoyl peroxide. After realizing none of the big brand names would make one for us, my goal became to make a generously sized 2.5% benzoyl peroxide, and to make it better while I was at it. I am able to offer Acne.org Benzoyl Peroxide at a low price and still make a profit due to my low overhead. People have generously donated their time and energy to the development of this product, including pharmaceutical consulting expertise and branding advice. Next, the manufacturer, tube makers and distributor all worked closely with me to keep their prices at a bare minimum. Also, because you are ordering directly from me, there are no complex distribution channels that tend to inflate prices. Even though I am going with the most expensive manufacturer I found because of their high quality and reputation, I can pass on a fair price to everyone. Lastly, I do not advertise.

What are the risks and warnings?

As with any benzoyl peroxide product, it is important that you start slowly with the amount that you use. Benzoyl peroxide comes with a well known "hardening effect" as dermatologists refer to it. This basically means that benzoyl peroxide causes redness and dryness in some people for the first couple of weeks until the skin gets used to it. While this may be unavoidable to some extent, you can avoid some of the redness and dryness by being prudent and starting slowly. See this link on Acne.org for how much to use. Also, 1-3% of the population is allergic to benzoyl peroxide, which is evidenced by swelling and/or severe crusting. It may be a good idea to test it on a small area for a few days before diving in. Lastly, benzoyl peroxide can bleach dyed fabrics, so keep it away from clothing that you love. Benzoyl peroxide may also bleach hair and eyebrows in some people.
