While AHA is not required on The Regimen, I still think everyone should have some around. I've kept some in my medicine cabinet for years now. For me it works wonders as a spot treatment, a back acne treatment, and to combat irritation. I also currently use it at night in place of my regular moisturizer from time to time. This helps keep me completely flake free, super moisturized, and keeps my skin pretty much perfect. Basically, how I describe it to people is, "the regular Regimen will keep your skin clear and AHA is not required, but if you want your skin perfect, add some AHA."

As a general rule, my suggestion is to do the regular Acne.org Regimen for a month or so until your skin becomes accustomed to benzoyl peroxide. Then, go ahead and replace your nightly moisturizer with AHA+ if you so desire. You should notice your skin looking better and more even toned.

For people with lighter cases of acne: I'm hoping you guys can replace the benzoyl peroxide and moisturizer in the morning with AHA+ and remain clear. The morning regimen would consist simply of washing and applying AHA (and then sunscreen if it's a sunny day). The proof is in the pudding, so we'll see how that goes. If this works, it'll be a nice alternative that doesn't bleach.

What is licochalcone?

Licochalcone gives this moisturizer its characteristic yellow color. It is also in the AHA+. Licochalcone is a highly distilled and potent extract of a species of licorice root well known for powerfully calming and soothing the skin. It is especially beneficial on acne-prone skin which tends to be sensitive and irritated. Licochalcone is incredibly expensive at $6000 per kilogram (about the weight of three baking potatoes), but you guys loved it so much in the AHA+ that I heard loud and clear that you wanted it included in the moisturizer as well. I agree with the suggestion and agree that its effects are worth the price. [Note: To avoid staining light colored clothing, allow moisturizer to absorb for 30 seconds or so before dressing.]

sun SUNBURN ALERT: AHA may increase your skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. Use a sunscreen and limit sun exposure while using AHA and for a week after discontinuing its use. I suggest Olay Complete for Sensitive Skin plus 4-5 drops of jojoba oil as a nice non-comedogenic sunscreen.

Note: Do not use AHA at the start of the Regimen. Give your skin 4-6 weeks before starting with AHA. Please see the Acne.org AHA FAQs for answers to frequently asked questions.
